First Weekend Back in Santa Barbara

I'm 3 weeks into the Winter Quarter of 2009 and it's the first weekend I'm actually staying up in Santa Barbara.  I've had a good first few weeks, needless to say some changes have occurred since the last time I have posted.  Let's make a list, shall we?

• New Car - 2007 Scion tC (Used) Got it for a really good price, and my insurance isn't too bad, Going to be paying $340/mo for insurance and car payments.
• Sent out my first round of Letters to Engineering Companies in the Torrance Area.
• Beginning a Search Engine Optimization Education Campaign (more details on this below!)
• Writing a Paper on "The Effects of the Google Search Algorithm on Consumer Marketing"

So, lots to talk about here. I mostly want to talk about the Search Engine Optimization Education Campaign I will be running.  Essentially, over the next few weeks I will be putting together a Keynote presentation that will illustrate the benefits of Internet Marketing (both SEO and PPC) to small business owners.  A lot of people in the world still don't know what SEO is, or PPC for that matter, and they should!  Small Business owners need to understand that visibility is key to making sales in a global marketplace.

The approach that I have roughly outlined so far is as follows:

1. Establish how people use search engines today
2. Establish the 6 Goals of SEO for Businesses
3. Develop the understand of the SEO Pyramid, how it works, why it's important to do things in order
4. Why haven't you heard about it before? (It takes time for results to show, and PPC is a quantitative solution for most companies)
5. What can I do now?

I hope to run this series sometime around summer, where I can dedicate myself full time to developing these seminars for the Chambers of Commerce throughout neighboring cities in my hometown.  I will be running the program through Dogs of Design Studios who offer services in search engine optimization and internet marketing.
